Tarbell (Edmund C.) is born in West Groton.

Edmund Tarbell attends the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, studies in Europe then returns to Boston, marries Emeline Arnold Souther in 1888, and lives at 24 Alban Street. A member of the “Boston School” of painters, he is named Chairman of the Department of Painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1889, and serves on the faculty until 1913. Tarbell dies in New Castle, New Hampshire on August 1, 1938.
